Avoiding People Being Put Off by an Ask Campaign

Author: Stu McLaren

Q:  When using Ask campaign, do you feel that people would be put off by having to come up with question in order to attend the teleseminar right on the opt-in page?

Here is the general rule of thumb.  Anytime you require somebody to take more steps, you decrease the opt-in rate because people are naturally lazy. They just do not want to take the extra step, so asking for just a name, for example is going to get a higher opt-in rate than asking for a name and email address.  Asking for a name and email address, you will get a higher opt-in rate than if you ask for name, email address, and a question.  So the more hoops you require people to jump through, the lower your opt-in rate is going to be.

Now with that said, you will have a more qualified audience or more qualified list if they are filling out that question.  So it is a Catch-22.  It really depends on whether you want more people on the call or more qualified people and both can have its advantages and disadvantages but that is generally the situation there.  So if you are asking a question you will probably get more qualified audience listening to your calls because they are filling out the question, but you will probably get less as far as numbers on the actual call.

You really have to be clear on your intentions ahead of time because if you are starting out and your primary focus is to build a list then you want as many people on that call as possible.
