Q:  I am wondering how early before a big paid interview call with an expert that I should start talking about it. I haven’t communicated much with my list lately so I don’t want to all of a sudden just spring it on them. My call is about a month away on my birthday actually.

My advice is the further out you can start planting seeds, the better response you will have. I would definitely start right now and just by sending an email to your list. Perhaps something to the effect of, “Every year around my birthday I am always looking to do something special and I think this year I am going to do something special for you. I have not gotten all the details ironed out yet but just know that on that date, I am going to do something special so just keep your eyes open for an email for the details that are coming up.”

So that is planting the seed that your birthday is the date that they want to save on their calendar. The next email will say something like, “I think I’ve got everything figured out. Here is a rough outline about what I am looking to do and I’m hoping to be able to get this expert. Here is why I want to get this expert,” and kind of talk or give a story or background as to why you want this particular person.

So plant the seed about the date and then maybe give a story about your guest before you even reveal who the expert is. Again, my advice is definitely plant seeds about your particular call and what you are going to be covering and who you are going to be interviewing well and advance so that it sets up the whole promotion. That way people already know who the person is, they already have an interest in that person, and it is a lot softer of a sale once you do start promoting that particular teleseminar.

At the same time give your expert template emails to send to their particular list to kind of help setup the particular promotion for them as well.

As for timing, I would look to do at least one a week. I would look to give content and things of that nature and if you can tie in some free content along with a little bit of promotion or setup for your promotion, I think that is a great combination as well.
