An Action Plan For Teleseminars

Author: Stu McLaren

Q:  I am trying to put together an action plan for our teleseminar, so that we are not just jumping from here to there all the time.  We have setup an actual plan over the next six months.  Here is what we are going to be doing.  Here is where we are going to do it.  Here is how we are going to do it.

So my question has to do with putting that kind of a plan together.  How often do we run the same teleseminar over and over again as a preview call or a prospecting call?  You know, like Jack Hanfield has a monthly call and you know that when you get the mailings that if you cannot make it this month, you know that on a Tuesday in the next month that you will get something and you can sign up then.  So part A, my question is how often do you hold a free teleseminar on a particular topic?

Well, it is a personal preference because some people are more comfortable doing them more frequently.  Others do not want to commit to that type of schedule.  So there is no set answer that I can give you but I will tell you the more you do, the more comfortable you are going to become on the phone and the more you will be able to dial in you presentation and the more effective you will be.

I know a particular marketer who got very good at conducting teleseminars because he did a lot of them. He was doing between four and five a week, and when you have that kind of experience you are going to learn very quickly what works and what does not work.  My personal preference is I do not like to do more than two or three a week.  I mean three a week is max for me because I do things in the evening. I am playing soccer, I am spending time with my family and stuff like that and that is typically when teleseminars are conducted.  So for me I like to limit as far as the number that I commit to.

Now with that being said, I do think there is tremendous value in having consistency in the scheduling of your teleseminars. I think that works for word of mouth. If I am out and am speaking to a couple of people and I tell him about this great teleseminar that I attended.  It is very easy for me to then say, “Hey, if you want to listen to it just dial in at three o’clock on Monday.  He has them every week,” or, “She has them every week.”

So it is very for word of mouth to pass along.  In addition to that, another thing I want to give you to think about is it also depends on how quickly you really want to ramp up.  There was a period about a year and half ago when I was doing a lot of teleseminars and the reason being was I wanted to create a lot of product.  So I was doing a brand new teleseminar every single week and that teleseminars was typically about 90 minutes long where I was teaching different types of content, and the reason I really ramped up my schedule was because I wanted to create a lot of product.  And once, I think, I did 15 weeks straight and once I finished that 15-week period, the number of teleseminars that I did died down dramatically because I had already created a lot of product at that point.

So it really is a personal preference.  Before you commit and openly say to the general public that I am going to be doing them every week at this such and such date and it such as such time, I would try it out first because you may find that it maybe too vigorous or maybe too less and you just want to find a happy balance before you establish your set schedule.
